What size (kick)boxing gloves do I need?

To choose the right glove size, you can use the following chart:

  • 10 oz : Junior or small women's gloves (50 - 60 kg)
  • 12 oz : Training gloves (60 - 75 kg)
  • 14 oz : Training gloves (75 - 85 kg)
  • 16 oz: Training gloves (85 - 100 kg)
  • 18+ oz: Training gloves (>100 kg)

The size in ounces (oz) is a combination of size and weight. The heavier the weight, the larger the gloves. For men, the most commonly used sizes are 14 or 16 oz, and for women, 10 or 12 oz. A heavier glove is beneficial for speed and endurance, but it requires adjustment due to faster muscle fatigue.

During matches, fighters usually fight with 10 or 12 oz gloves, which increases speed and reduces muscle fatigue caused by training with heavier gloves.

Fit is crucial: the gloves must close properly without pinching, taking bandages into account. Leather generally lasts longer and retains its shape better than synthetic leather.
